Five Cool Leytonstone wedding venues in East London

Hollow Ponds

As a Leytonstone resident and someone who got married recently, I understand what a challenge it can be to find a cool wedding venue in the area. Many of our brides are from this little beloved corner of East London too. So if you're a bride and you're looking for a modern, cool venue here to have your special day at, where can you book? The options are limited, especially as the full list of approved venues isn't available online at the Waltham Forest website either I frustratingly found. So I’ve put together this little list of five of favourite venues that are worth checking out.

Rear Window Restaurant at the Hitchcock Hotel

Rear View Window

At the top of my list is the Rear Window restaurant located at the Hitchcock Hotel. They just got their wedding licence in January this year and it offers a wonderfully unique setting that’s warm and inviting. Perfect for intimate weddings and overlooking the outstanding natural beauty of Leyton Flats, on the edges of Epping Forest and the famous Hollow Ponds. This venue really does have everything you could possibly want from a cool London wedding. I wish this place was available when Mr Stupants and I got married, it would have been perfect. You can have your wedding and reception here and also stay in the boutique rooms. Having everything in one venue, all with a little bit of natural beauty too thrown in, is great.

The Rear Window restaurant  is run by Will and Ruth who happened to be part of the team who opened the first-ever Ivy restaurant in London's West end. Expect tasty modern European fare, super friendly service and a place that's unlike any other wedding venue. We went there for dinner recently and had steak, arancini balls with truffle and creamy mussels. Yum!

Hollow Ponds directly opposite is a popular boating lake, and its possible to hire a boat which would be lots of fun for your guests too. To enquire about boat hire, go to this website. We're just checking with them to see if they are still operational. https://hollowponds.co.uk/

Boats are £20 per person, and open from about 11am on the weekends, and open weather dependent if its nice and clear sunny day. If its raining or windy the boats are not operational. Run by James, just turn up and go to the boating house to hire a boat or phone the mobile on 07973 128375 or email james@hollowponds.co.uk.

If you’re wondering what the link is with Alfred Hitchcock? He just so happens to be a very famous Leytonstone resident, if anyone was curious.

Heathcote and Star pub

The Heathcote and Star is a charming Edwardian pub with lofty high ceilings in the heart of Leytonstone that’s brimming with loads of character and style. It’s a really popular well-loved pub; lots of great reviews too, its well worth a look! Not too far from Leytonstone tube station and a choice of lots of different rooms too. This venue would be perfect for a laid back relaxed wedding that’s a little different to your traditional.

Couples have a choice of two beautiful function rooms to choose from, one with a unique starry night ceiling.  It also has one of the biggest pub gardens in the area.

Their kitchen partners Krapow! menu bringing you seasonal Thai food if you fancy something a little spicy but they can also cater for traditional wedding fare too.

The Red Lion pub

Red Lion pub

The Red Lion pub is a bit of a Leytonstone institution thats got so much history and character and owned by the same people who also run the Clapton Hart, White Hart in stokey and the Dogstar in Brixton. Almost got married at this place, which at the time of planning our wedding was actually in the process of applying for their wedding licence. Conveniently located next to St John's Leytonstone Church, it makes a great place for a wedding reception with its huge first floor ballroom, a former dancehall and has some beautifully designed boutique bedrooms too. We can’t find any information online if this venue managed to get their licence so it’s worth asking.

This is a historical pub that has been serving locals with delicious beer and a home from home since around 1870. The ballroom was the first London venue that Led Zeppelin played and has hosted Craig Charles, Bad Manners and Norman Jay amongst many others.

It’s a short walk from Wanstead Flats and the ancient woods of Bushwood too, so if you fancy a little bit of the outside and nature on your doorstep on your special day, this could be the perfect reception venue for you. It's also just a few minutes walk from Leytonstone overground.

Leytonstone Tavern pub

Leytonstone Tavern

The Leytonstone Tavern, our local, is a really charming and warm place to have an intimate wedding reception.  Although it doesn’t have their wedding license, it’s fast becoming a really popular Leytonstone place for a wedding reception. An independent, community focused, neighbourhood pub and dining room that’s probably the best place in the whole of Leytonstone (and one of the best in London?) for burgers.  The staff are so friendly too. Food is always sustainably sourced and ethically reared produce and their head chef Jamie can cater for relaxed to upscale and fine dining. Any of their burgers can also be made vegan too.

Serving locals since 1865 and also winners of Street Food championship Winner 2022 and National burgers awards finalist 2023. They have a separate space that can be closed off for a private celebration and a late license

The Birds

The Birds Leytonstone, is another cosy, warm inviting pub that hosts fabulous wedding receptions that’s worth a look. They don’t have a wedding license, but it’s a great place to have your wedding reception. Named after Leytonstone’s most famous resident, Alfred Hitchcock’s film, this is a place with loads of character and style.

Exposed wooden floors, large sash windows, and high ceilings make the first-floor room light and airy and a blank canvas to put your own personal stamp on your special day. They also have a range of delicious vegan options, you can opt in for a fully vegan wedding, or choose from your traditional wedding favourites or even its delicious pub menu.
