Top tips: finding the right dress {part 2}
by Sam Walsh / Sass and Grace Bridal
When you start wedding dress shopping, it can be such an overwhelming experience. Perhaps you have an idea of what you want already, or perhaps you've never thought you'd ever wear a wedding dress, either way it can be confusing, especially if you're not sure which dress to go for. Following on from our last post, Finding the right dress {part 1}, here are five more helpful top tips from Sam Walsh, the owner of Sass and Grace Bridal in Winchester, Hampshire UK.
1. Dress to suit your figure
Pear shape
If you are a pear shape then a dress that nips you in at the waist before going out is the shape for you. Skirts don’t have to be full on princess skirts – an a-line or a flowy skirt can work just as well and look incredibly elegant.
Slim shape
If you are lucky enough to be lovely and slim then a slinky silk number could be for you. Team it with a sparkly belt to accentuate your waist – sometimes less is more.
Curvaceous shape
If your curves are all in the right place then you should go for a fitted wedding dress and show them off!
2. Don’t be predictable
You want to wow your guests on your big day and part of that is not being what you are expected to be. You need to push yourself far enough out of your comfort zone so that you feel special, but not too far so that you don’t feel like you. Visit a good boutique, by trying many styles and looks they can help you with this decision.
3. Be comfortable
You should feel comfortable on your big day not just your dress we’re including your hair, make-up, shoes and underwear - however the dress is a huge factor! Make sure you walk about and move in your dress when you are at your fittings, also make sure you try sitting down and ensure the boutique shows you, and at least one of your bridal party, how to bustle your dress. When choosing a dress consider the fabric, try a silk dress as this can feel fabulous against your skin.
4. Complete the look
Think about the overall picture of your day and what you are trying to create. You don’t have to ‘theme’ your wedding but having an over arching style will help you to plan all the small details.
5. The Veil
Once you have chosen your dress try a variety of veils – even if you think you don’t want to wear one! They feel fabulous on and this is the only chance you will ever get to wear something like that.
